Beyond that, the fact is that in spite of the politics involved, Trump has a much closer association in my mind to Jim Jones, “As the self-proclaimed messiah of the Peoples Temple religious cult, Jones promised his followers utopia if they followed him.”
What we’re looking at in this season of fear your neighbor (as yourself?) is the growth of a cult. The really strange thing is that everyone knew then, just as people know now, that drinking that poison KoolAid is deadly, and yet there are plenty of otherwise sensible people joining in and encouraging their friends and family to drink up.
