With all the things I've heard about on the airwaves, you'd think I have something to write about...well, not really. My heart continues to get heavier and I continue to drift further and further into what feels like insanity with each article I read. It feels like the country (Especially here in America's Graveyard...err, I mean Florida) is further slipping into a dystopia and there's not a damn thing I can do about it.
I find that when I'm going about my business on any given day, I'm talking to myself about what's going on around me, from local to national and world events. The Trayvon Martin murder is one such example. It's clear as day to me that George Zimmerman was looking for any excuse to make use of that gun he probably carries to make up for his lack of manhood.
But Trayvon Martin's death is only a microcosm of the paranoia being shouted from the rooftops of the Republican primary campaigns. This shit goes all the way back to Lee Atwater and Richard Nixon, what was deemed the Southern Strategy. In short, the plan was to create a polarized environment by reviving issues such as States Rights and Segregation, only they couldn't do so overtly. They had to use code words such as 'neighborhood schools', 'personal liberty', 'right to work', 'personal responsibility' and so on. What we see today could be construed as a sort of end result of that. This practice is nothing new, and in truth, it even goes back to the whitewashed men we call 'The Founding Fathers'.
